FREE HEALTH IN NZ??

This week’s health tip:

Non Pharmac

Yet another story was in the media the other week about Pharmac.

This one story is a little different as it involves Keytruda.

Keytruda is a drug which Pharmac started funding recently which is great. But there’s a catch – they only fund it if you have lung cancer and melanoma.

The story in the media is about Christine who has triple negative breast cancer. She has had surgery, chemotherapy and radiation but the cancer came back and spread leaving her with a life expectancy of less than a year.

She made the call to go private for treatment which involved chemotherapy and immuno-therapy and Keytruda.

But because she didn’t have lung cancer or melanoma she has to pay for Keytruda herself – cost being in excess of $100k.

To say the article is a frustrating read is an understatement.

As we all know the best way to avoid being held to ransom by Pharmac is through private health insurance – in particular Ultimate Health Max.
